It is the homeland of sloths, howler monkeys, endemic frogs, raccoons, ocelots, panthers, parrots, toucans … The diversity of exotic animals, birds, aquatic fauna and corals is impressive and is found in few places in the world.
In this vast paradise are 5 magnificent beaches not to be missed. Here they are :
1. Playa Zapatilla
Playa Zapatilla is located on one of the two wild and protected islands of Cayo Zapatilla. Surrounded by a coral reef, they are renowned for the beauty of their white sand beaches and turquoise water.
They bathe in shallow crystal clear waters and therefore ideal for snorkeling. From the beach, there are two small islets in the lagoon with palm trees to complete the decor.
It is possible to take a day trip with a local agency in the village (there is no hotel on the island). We can also organize a day trip for you to discover these islands.
2. Playa Red Frog
Renowned for its adorable little red frogs, this magnificent paradise beach is located on the island of Bastimentos. White sand, warm turquoise waters, palm trees lining the beach and small paths that crisscross the forest… It is a unique place because of the lush tropical forest that frames this epic landscape.
Red Frog Beach has been touted as one of the best beaches in the world. The other beaches in Bastimentos are equally beautiful and include: Wizard Beach, Turtle Beach, North Beach, Cayman Beach and Playa Larga. Four of the world’s eight species of sea turtles nest on these beaches.
3. Playa Estrella

Located on Isla Colón, on the north of the village of Bocas del Toro, this beach is very popular with surfers because of its big and strong waves. Incredibly beautiful, it is a very long beach that runs along the jungle and has remained totally wild.
It is also famous as a place to observe sea turtles. From May to September, turtles come to lay their eggs there at night. Since these are protected species, visiting the premises during this season is subject to certain rules of respect for the environment.
5. Playa del Drago
On Isla Colón, on the opposite coast of Playa Bluff, this beautiful beach is quieter with turquoise sea and coconut palms. Small restaurants can be found along the beach where you can enjoy grilled fish or lobsters.
